Washington State Parks Rebrand
Being from Washington State, mountains and hiking have always been one of my favorite activities. I love having the opportunity to explore the vast landscapes that Washington has to offer. I often utilize the WA State Parks website and notice their logo nearly every time I open the site. I wanted to create a new logo, one that was more current and could easily be identified as well as something simplistic and reflective of the state itself.
WA State History
Washington is a state that has a variety of landscapes and wildlife, ranging from the Peninsula to the grand Mt. Rainer, and from the plains in the central part of the state to Puget Sound, featuring one of the largest growing cities in the country, Seattle. The WA state park system was established in 1913 and now holds 140 parks with 19 marine parks and 11 historical parks. The state also features three National parks, and altogether these parks make up the adventurous and vast Washington State.
About the Logo
I wanted to create a simplistic and more modern logo than the current one utilized on the Washington State Parks website. My idea was to use the W as both a letterform and as mountains, with one peak in the center and the others reaching up and out of sight to emphasize the rugged and vast landscape around the beautiful state of Washington. The color of the logo can be changed to fit the task of the designer but I chose to have the primary color be a light teal. Teal is in between blue and green and Washington is a state with extraordinary lakes and ocean coasts as well as trees and greenery.
